  • Overview

    The Infrastructure Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked infrastructure and associated operating systems. The Infrastructure Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT Infrastructure investments.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage and maintain MS SQL 2008/14/17 environment including SSIS, SSRS, SSMS, SSAS and productivity tools.
    • Provide “Primary Support” duties for SQL infrastructure technologies; Primary Support responsibilities include maintaining backup and recovery strategy and documentation, patching, L2 incident ownership through resolution, licensing, capacity management, performance management, configuration management, availability management, SLA management and system documentation
    • Designs, implements, and maintains corporate database systems by serving as the primary database resource for corporate/departmental projects.
    • Work with IT staff to design, test and implement corporate database systems to meet our information needs.
    • Assist the data modeler and data architect in designing databases that are normalized, documented, and compatible with currently established criteria.
    • Review and audit deployment scripts before applying to production. Test and install database systems using thorough testing procedures and checklists to verify software functionality, as it relates to the database.
    • Participate in and conduct walk-throughs and modeling of database systems and business processes.
    • Enhance technical and analytical competence through experience, research, and continuing education on database systems and business functions. Research emerging database technologies.  Recommend new software that can enhance operational and development activities that will improve overall effectiveness of individual departments to others in IS.
    • Collaborate with business users and IT Security to implement a data security policy to ensure the protection of corporate data. Assist operations and applications in problem/resolution analysis. Responsible for coordinating and implementing changes that prevent problems from reoccurring.
    • Professionally represent the Infrastructure team as a technical representative on projects
    • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing SQL infrastructure technology; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging the current infrastructure
    • Maintain a good working knowledge of current infrastructure footprint and industry trends
    • Maintain the necessary project plans and documentation of all system builds and modifications. Develop project plans and publish status updates for Infrastructure lead projects.
    • Monitor systems and identify performance issues proactively
    • Provide orientation and mentoring to junior associates
    • Work within strict timeframes and elevate incidents within defined timeframes
    • Test all changes to networks, hardware, software, and hosted applications
    • Maintain good working relationships with all service providers and vendors to ensure that services received meet expected requirements of contract
    • Participate in 24 x 7 on call rotation

     

    Qualifications

    ESSENTIAL:

    • Extensive working knowledge (5+ years) of Windows 2016, SQL 2008/2012/2014/2016 as a DBA.
    • Deep knowledge of MS SQL Server Enterprise features such as AlwaysOn, In-Memory Tables, traceflags customization, Desired State Configuration, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
    • Manage SQL Server DBs through multiple lifecycle environments – Dev, QA, Staging and Production
    • Assist IT staff with SQL development and query optimization, security, production data processes and creation of baseline query performance standards.
    • Play an integral part in performance tuning/troubleshooting; help answer the question – is it the application, the DB or the network?
    • Monitor and report on system performance
    • Support and improve the reliability, stability and scalability of all MS SQL platforms
    • Work closely with the Management team to define project requirement clarity and schedule
    • Understand Disaster Recovery using SQL Server AlwaysOn with Multi-subnet nodes and asynchronies replication
    • Understand Data Warehouse Star schema fundamentals.

    PREFERRED:

    • Oracle DBA experience.
    • Extensive experience with 3 or more of the following technologies: Windows 2012R2/2016, RedHat Linux, VMWare 6x, Data Center Management, Infrastructure Monitoring, Enterprise Compute, Enterprise Storage, Cisco, Patch Management and Exchange/O365
    • Working knowledge of P&C insurance processing systems.
    • Solid technical background in a hosted services environment including infrastructure networks, hardware, software and telecommunications
    • Pervious software development experience (e.g. .Net, C#, Java)
    • Big Data Analysis
    • Knowledge of ITIL and industry best practices
